Whether in space, on an aircraft or in the sea, dependability is required for mission critical systems needing release mechanisms that are designed and developed for low shock, highly reliable separation nuts for applications in submarine, launch vehicle, satellite, and payload systems.

How Separation Nut Work

Separation nuts are designed to provide mechanical release of various component devices. The most common design configuration consists of a housing containing a segmented thread interface which is compatible with the threads on the mating stud.

Most separation nuts are externally actuated using an impulse or pressure type cartridge. When the separation nut is pyrotechnically actuated the threaded segments will be allowed to move away and expand, resulting in the release of the mating device.

FUNCTIONS

The separation nut provides a pyrotechnic solution for critical release events. Some of the most common uses include satellite deployment along with clamp release applications for weapons launch systems.

APPLICATIONS

Our separation nut designs are qualified and used on vertical launch, anti-submarine rocket and satellite deployment systems.

    -65 °F to +225 °F

  • Axial Load Retention

    Tested with an axial load of 29,500 ± 500 pounds

  • Hermesticity (pre-function)

    Leak rate shall not exceed 2.7 x 10-5 cc/sec of Helium at 1 atmosphere differential.
