At PacSci EMC, we’ve progressively replaced our lead-sheathed linear solutions with environmentally conscious materials, and we’re dedicated to sustainability business practices while still providing the most effective linear explosives to withstand high temperatures and provide the high performance.
Our linear explosives – an explosive powder/material loaded into a tube that’s formed into long lengths – are manufactured in multiple sheaths including lead, tin, copper, silver and aluminum. We possess the ability to load high explosives (such as HNS, PBXN-5, HMX, and PETN) and deflagration materials (rapid deflagration material, time delay mixes, auto-ignition powders and more) to support your linear parts and assemblies.

Mild Detonating Cord or Fuze (MDC/MDF)
MDC/MDFs are metal-clad linear explosives typically drawn or extruded in a round configuration. Used as an explosive transfer signal network, initiation or acrylic/metal fragilization or separation enabler, MDC/MDF can be rolled into an elliptical or flat ribbon shape and installed into PacSci EMC-designed holder assemblies. These holders can provide the installation medium, back blast protection/confinement and MDC/MDF protection your complex aerospace or defense mission requires.
Flexible or Linear Shaped Charges (FLSC/LSC)
This continuous explosive core – encased in a seamless metal sheath and formed into a chevron shape – produces a uniform linear cutting action that can be used against multiple types of target materials, including steel, titanium, aluminum, composites, cast or stretched acrylic, and polycarbonate. They can be installed into PacSci EMC-designed holder assemblies for aerospace and defense applications.
Rapid Deflagraton Cord (RDC)
RDC is loaded with a deflagrating material that burns at a rate of approximately 1,000 meters/second. As a result, it is fully functional throughout the temperature range of -200° to 370° C, and has been subjected to high temperature storage of 5,000 hours at +205° C. Qualification programs have been conducted at the assembly level; Eglin Air Force Base has performed powder characterization and safety testing per MIL-STD-1751.
Explosive Transfer Lines (ETLs)
Our detonating and deflagrating ETLs empower you to create entire explosive-based sub-systems in conjunction with connectors and manifolds.
ETLs can be used in multiple aerospace, defense and commercial applications to propagate an explosive stimulus between moveable installation points.
PasSci EMC produces three types of MDC loaded detonating ETLs, each with an end fitting with loaded boosters and threaded fittings for installation in to other components. The ETLs PaSci EMC produces and their unique features are:
Shielded Mild Detonating Cord (SMDC) Lines: RidgidRigid lines, bent to customer required configurations and designed for rugged environments (high traffic, heat, etc.). These lines are hermetically sealed within a stainless steel tube and end fittings and when functioned, contain all byproducts of combustion.
Flexible Confined Detonating Cord (FCDC)/ Confined Detonating Cord (CDC): Flexible lines designed with layers such as polyethylene, fiberglass, Kevlar and stainless steel braiding to ensure confinement of detonating byproducts when functioned.
Flexible Detonating Cord (FDC) Lines: designed as a cost effective and robust ETL for primary use in missile, munitions and target vehicle.
Rapid Deflagration Cord Transfer Lines (RDCTLs) are semi-rigid lines loaded with RDC inside an aluminum or stainless steel tube. They have the flexibility to route in modern aerospace and defense structures and the strength to withhold their shape and provide damage tolerance and reliability. RDCTL’s smaller diameter and lighter weight make them ideal when weight and volume are critical to a vehicle. RDCTL are designed with three types of end fittings to allow for various combinations of input stimulus and output requirements.
- High Energy (HE) generating or accepting a detonation event.
- Low Energy (LE) generating or accepting a pressure or flame front event. This line can’t initiate an HE end fitting.
Percussion Primer (PP) accepting a mechanical input from a firing pin striking this end fitting. RDCTLs with this end fitting allow the replacement of traditionally explosive loaded parts with inert devices (i.e. Inert Arm Fire Initiator, Inert Gas/ RDCTL Initiator, Inert Acceptor, etc.). The output from this line can be LE or HE.
Connectors and Manifolds
To help you optimize your linear solutions, PacSci EMC offers wide ranges of explosive loaded and inert connectors and manifolds. Connectors are junction manifolds that interconnect ETL end tip assemblies to allow detonation or deflagration explosive signal transfer. PacSci EMC offers connection manifolds in 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 ports.
