Pyrotechnic Time Delays (Sequencing)
Your mission-critical objectives are perfectly timed with PacSci EMC’s pyrotechnic Time Delays, no matter how robust the environment.
How Pyrotechnic Time Delays Work
Our pyrotechnic time delays are used to provide a controlled delay time from initiation stimulus to the device, to the time the device provides an output. The delays are typically initiated by standard detonating tips, deflagrating lines or hot gas and contain products of combustion. A time delay usually includes a pyrotechnic cartridge within a housing that is hermetically sealed and the Small Column Insulated Delay (SCID) delay element. The SCID is the pyrotechnic delay element consisting of a controlled burn rate fuse material within a metal sheath. The housing is the protective container that holds the cartridge and provides the required interfaces for the input and output devices. PacSci EMC pyrotechnic time delays range from 50 milliseconds to 10 minutes. Time tolerances are typically +/- 20% across the operating temperature range. A time delay provides as stand-alone devices, but can be packaged with other time delays or devices to meet customer application needs.
What Our Pyrotechnic Time Delays Can Do
Pyrotechnic Time delays are used in applications requiring high reliability, environmental durability, and containment of combustion products. They are typically used as part of a logic structure to provide key sequencing of ordnance networks. Pyrotechnic ime delays are used across a wide range of military and aerospace platforms where high reliability, compact packaging, controlled timing, versatile input/output capabilities, proven durability through multiple environments, and high energy output are necessary.
Where our Pyrotechnic Time Delays Can Be Found
PacSci EMC pyrotechnic time delay designs are qualified and used on space applications including Delta Launch and Orbital Vehicles. Our time delays are also used on airframe applications including Martin Baker Ejection Seats, B-1, F-15, F-111, T4 T-38, F-18, TF-18, Air Force and Navy Crew Escape, not to mention oil and gas “down hole” environments.
